Responsible for information technology strategy, budget, and operations for a major urban public library system with over 14,000,000 annual patron visits, and an annual circulation of 12,000,000 items. IT manages over 2000 workstations for staff and public use, over 50 applications including an Integrated Library System (ILS), over 100 physical and virtual servers, and a high-speed metro-area network connecting 27 locations. As a member of the Library Leadership Team, I lead projects related to organizational and strategic planning.

Under a managed services contract with Seattle University, led and managed all IT operations including instructional/learning technology, administrative applications, web services, information management, network and server infrastructure, desktop support, and help desk. Managed the IT budget, vendor relationships, and technology purchasing services. Advised SU leadership on IT strategy, governance, and planning.

Member of the OIM senior leadership team. Established and led new division to support the community of university developers, analysts, academic leaders, and administrators in working cooperatively on projects and participating in shared governance. Developed standards and methods to support project prioritization and decision making. Designed and implemented application and project portfolio management tools using MS SharePoint. Developed performance goals, cost-benefit metrics, and management dashboards. Responsible for professional development and staff training programs.

Managed IT department that provided services to 200 staff/faculty and 1,500 students. Provided end user support services, including help desk and consulting. Implemented Microsoft Active Directory and Systems Management Server. Delivered network attached storage (NAS) and disaster recovery (DR) services (EMC/IBM TSM). Upgraded data center facility to support computational clusters. Virtualized server infrastructure using Microsoft Virtual Server. Provided data management and BI services (MS SQL Server and Oracle). Developed custom applications (PHP and ASP.NET). Served as Chair of University Computing Directors group for two years and on several university IT planning committees and working groups.

Managed IT department that provided services to 150 staff/faculty and 1,000 students. Provided end user support services, including help desk and consulting. Implemented Microsoft Active Directory. Enhanced data reporting and analysis services (MS SQL Server). Upgraded Ethernet network and deployed WiFi infrastructure (Cisco & HP). Developed administrative applications (ASP & ASP.NET). Co-founded Campus Technical Issues Group and Madison Technical Advisory Group, which were advisory to the University CIO.

Established and led a new IT department that provided services to 100 staff in 12 campus locations. Provided computing and user education services to thousands of library patrons. Delivered statewide electronic access to government publications and periodicals. Selected and implemented a university-wide shared calendaring and scheduling application (CST CorporateTime). Expanded Internet access throughout library facilities. Managed the technical infrastructure, operations, and facilities for “The Information Arcade” – an innovative multimedia development and learning space.

Consulted with university students and faculty on multimedia and web development projects. Conducted library user and staff education session on electronic information retrieval and evaluation.

Managed sales staff and store operations for home furnishings and clothing retailer.
